Why I Quit Music 😱

Why I Quit Music 😱

So I just had another birthday…🎂

Yay! 🎉Every year is a gift! 💝

And I don’t know about you, but I always get a bit introspective around this time - which is partly why you haven’t heard from me on social media in awhile 😉

I like to reflect on the biggest events of my year - see what I learned, how I grew, what’s working for me, what’s not, what I need to change, let go of, make happen, etc…

So thought I’d share some of that with you.

...and it feels kind of scary and vulnerable doing this… but what the heck - we’re friends, right? 😜

Hopefully there will be some take-aways for you as well.

So here we go…

My 3 biggies last year were:

  • BOTH my youngins flew the coop  - one, all the way across the ocean (it’s that “gypsy” blood)

  • I got my first grey hair (finally a wisegal!)

  • I quit music (don’t freak out, keep reading…)

Yep, last year I decided to take a year off from performing live, which was quite a big deal for me mostly because I worked very hard to get to the point where I could make a living from it!

But after doing that full-time for about 2 ½ years following the release of my first album, I was beginning to feel burned out - like I was just spinning my wheels.

It’s not that I didn’t LIKE sharing my music and meeting so many wonderful people every week - that part’s AWESOME - but all of a sudden I realized that I hadn’t CREATED any new music in a long time and that was really bugging me.

Now I know there are artists who only dream of getting that far “making a living through playing music” - but I don’t want to just make a living! I want to make MUSIC - and even fully booked, I was barely covering my bills.

That’s when it dawned on me…

Shoot! I’m not a musician.

I’m a music ARTIST.

Yes, I have music talent - I sing, play guitar, write songs...but the LAST thing I wanna do after a long days work (in this case: playing music) is bring work home (play more music). Musicians who are REAL musicians - ALL they wanna do is play music! They’ll do it all day long on a train, on a plane, with a goat, on a eggs and all and in their SLEEP.

Not me.

For me, there has to be a REASON to pick up my guitar. A REASON to sing a song.

That reason is when I feel a song coming on that I know will add value to my world and perhaps yours if you’re a kindred spirit.

That reason is a well crafted story with lyrics to match the emotion in the melody...then being able to effectively communicate the experience!

But that wasn’t my reality.

Most of the places I was performing at were venues that had other activities at the core: dining, wine tasting, a party... music was definitely PART of the experience, but not the main focus.

As a result, I was feeling overwhelmed and pressured to add songs to my repertoire that, for the most part, I felt absolutely no connection with just because they fit the “ambience” - kinda like successfully making small talk with everyone at a party but never really having a conversation, ya know? It felt very “professional” and “commercial”… and I started to dread it. NO BUENO.

I suddenly realized that I was making a living at the expense of my creativity.

I knew I HAD to make a change or the artist in me would die.

You see, I don’t want to HAVE to create music to live. I want to live to create. - To create from a place of overflow and experience. Because that’s where the best songs come from anyways!

So if you don’t see or hear much of me these days, just know I’m on a mission to create the kind of lifestyle that will support my long-term goals - that OF COURSE also include making more epic, inspiring, uplifting, and empowering music that I can share with YOU.

What are you looking to create in your life? I’d love to hear 🙂

Love ‘N Music,

~ EDEN :)

Tell me something…❤️️

It took me awhile to finally be able to perform this song without getting emotional as the movie “Shallow” made me think what it must’ve been like for my brother and his struggle with depression (that he never talked about)…

God bless Lady Gaga for raising awareness and promoting more conversation regarding mental illness.

Today I dedicate this song to any of you who may be struggling: may you find the courage within you to ignore that insidious inner voice and live courageously ❤

Much love,

Eden :)

"Burning Man"

"Burning Man"

Some days I’m the exception. Most days I’m just like most…🙃

I fricken LOVE this Dierks Bentley song so wanted to share it with you.

Dunno about you, but I can pretty much identify with every single line - except that I haven’t been to Burning Man… YET. Have you?? To go or not to go…🤔

Either way, hope you enjoy my acoustic version of the song!

Lotsa luv! ~ Eden :)

Brazil, Buns 'N Beer (Hello 2019!)

Brazil, Buns 'N Beer (Hello 2019!)

Hard to believe we are already 2 weeks into 2019!!

Having just gotten back from Brazil, I wanna talk a little about that...

So I love the finer things in life, but nothing fascinates me more than experiencing new cultures.

Although I grew up in Brasil, one of the things I never got to do - and one of the things on my bucket list - was to experience NYE on Copacabana. Not at some penthouse club overlooking the beach, but the NYE “do povo” (“of the people”) ON the beach...

❄️ Baby, It's Cold Outside ❄️

🍁Fall-ing Into A New Chapter🍁

🍁Fall-ing Into A New Chapter🍁

Wow, I can’t believe it’s already been a month since I announced my “last performance of 2018”!

And I’ve been asked a lot why am I’m “not doing music anymore” - so figured a “note” to clarify was in order!

First of all, I have NOT stopped “doing music”. If anything, much to the contrary. But I can totally understand where a lack of tour dates on my website and posting pictures of my shows could make it appear that way…

So allow me to share a little “behind the scenes”…

So excited to announce the launch of Gypsy Country!

"Angel From Montgomery"

Definitely a bold move attempting to follow Bonnie Raitt in this timeless soul searching John Prine tune but I hope you like it and that my version does it justice.

Singing and strumming stories from the heart

June 2, 2016 - by Susan Lagsdin, The Good Life

Eden Moody doesn’t just wear her heart on her sleeve, she writes it, plays it, sings it, tells the whole story.

Her lyrics are intensely personal and universal at the same time. “I only write when I can’t get an idea out of my head,” says the Wenatchee musician. “I don’t write to change the world or even ‘work through something.’ I write in retrospect, to gain perspective on my experience.”

That personal point of view and a fine, clear voice she says people have called honest, healing and relatable have attracted an appreciative circle of listeners in the area who’ve been touched by her lyrics and her musicality...[CONTINUE READING]

Reality singing competitions can seem a bit like magic. We, the viewers, watch as regular people from towns and cities across the country shoot from relative obscurity to national fame and the potential for lasting music careers in just months. Local singer-songwriter Eden Moody knows all about that feeling...[CONTINUE READING]

Moody finds ‘Home’ in Wenatchee

Jan 22, 2015 - by Kelli Scott, The Wenatchee World

East Wenatchee singer/songwriter Eden Moody will release her long-awaited debut EP this week, a five-song album on which Moody sings her heart out about love, sacrifice and coming home.

The short, self-titled album is not exactly what Moody set out to create when she began a Kickstarter fundraising campaign in 2013. That campaign easily raised the $10,000 Moody’s producer had quoted her to record and release a full-length album. But a series of delays on the producer’s end of the…[CONTINUE READING]
